The quickest, easiest, and most popular way to learn is private instruction.
Essentially, every dance studio uses a medalist system of teaching. Bronze signifies a good competent level of dancing and everyone starts at the beginning by learning bronze. As dancer's improve, they graduate to Silver, Gold, and open levels.
Additionally, teachers will teach four different styles: American Rhythm, American Smooth, International Latin, and International Ballroom. All of the different dances bring variety and character to your dancing.
American Smooth: Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Viennese Waltz
American Rhythm: Cha-Cha, Rumba, Swing, Bolero, Mambo
International Ballroom: Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Foxtrot, and Quick Step
International Latin: Cha-Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble, and Jive
We also teach you to dance for fun! There are social dances such as:
-West Coast Swing
-Single time swing
No matter why you are coming to East Towne Ballroom, we can teach you any or all of these dances!
If you are getting ready for your wedding we can also help you feel great going into your big day. Get a choreographed dance or just some moves to help you look amazing on the floor.
We also offer group classes. Group classes supplement what you are working on in your private lessons. Group classes give you the chance to start a dance you haven't yet and meet and practice with other dancers working on the same thing.
Dancing should be a fun and comfortable experience for everyone. Wear something that you can move well in. A lot of people wear business casual clothing. A nice skirt and a tank top, or jeans and a button up work well if you are unsure of what to wear the first time you come in.
Don't forget to wear shoes that are closed toed and have a back to them. The last thing you want is your shoes falling off while you are trying to dance.
We are located off of Broadway street right by the public market in downtown Milwaukee. This means street parking! There is two hour street parking directly in front of the studio. You can also find street parking on the streets surrounding the building. When in doubt, circle the building once and see if you can get a spot!
If not, no worries! There is a public parking lot right next to the building. The parking lot is right after the stop light on Broadway.
Yes! Normally, there is a social dance at East Towne Ballroom at least once a month. There are also other socials around the dance community that are held and a great place to practice your dancing and enjoy a night out.
Because of COVID-19 there are no socials currently. But we hope to get back to them very very soon! Now is the perfect time to get started so that you are ready to dance and feel confident going into your first social!
No! If you are looking to learn to dance for yourself as something fun, you do not need a partner! Our instructors will dance with you during private lessons. If you are in a group class setting, being by yourself if a great way to meet new people and still improve your dancing. We love teaching both singles and couples!
When you are first starting out, it is always a good idea to take lessons consistently! At least one lesson, if not two, a week. The more time in between lessons, the less confident you will be with your dancing.
Stay sharp and on top of your dancing and make sure you are scheduling your lessons in advance!
